Beef’s Season’s End Massey Bracketology, Post-Week 6

Hot Beef Take

The computer seems to be in major flux still. Teams moving in and out of the bracket like the wind changing direction. I suppose it makes sense as it’s still not even the halfway point for most teams. Though, that also changes this week, as most will play their sixth game. Remember, for this exercise, I’m using the current Ken Massey computer ratings, more importantly the projections toward season’s end. With those records, I am putting together this exclusive FCS Bracketology for On Press Row. Only the contenders in each conference are listed, those teams being 5-6 or better overall. This doesn’t necessarily hit all the 5-6 teams in the one-bid, non-scholarship or minimal scholarship conferences.

Post-Week 6 Massey Bracket

It seems weird to be putting five Big Sky AND five Colonial teams in the field and only four from the Missouri Valley. However, even like Joe Lunardi would say during basketball season, and this is true, you’re not giving spots to conferences, but to individual teams. And with the possible log jam of 9-2 / 8-1 teams in the Southland, there’s another bid that’s likely costing someone else. Most notably, the Southern, which is actually thought to be the fourth or fifth best conference, along the Southland. But it really looks like the Southern’s strength is its depth. Only one team besides their champion projects to seven wins and when stacked against the fourth and/or fifth place teams from the other power conferences, they just don’t stack up.
