5 Reasons To Be Excited About Gilmore Girls On Netflix

It finally happened. After so much time living with an undeniable hole in all of our lives, Gilmore Girls is finally available to stream on Netflix. We can all breathe a sigh of relief as we settle down on our couches for a long overdue marathon. But, something needs to be addressed first. Apparently there are still people who have never watched an episode of Gilmore Girls. I feel it is my civic duty to introduce this portion of the population to the world of Gilmore. Just to give you a taste, here’s a few things you can look forward to when your friends inevitably force you to watch with them.
1) The Dialogue
Gilmore Girls is famous for its lightning fast dialogue. Showrunner Amy Sherman-Palladino’s scripts were known for being up to double the length of a typical one-hour television script.
2) Pre-fame Melissa McCarthy
Today, Melissa McCarthy is a household name. She had her breakout role in Bridesmaids and has since been in several box office hits, but before any of that, she played the lovable chef Sookie St. James on Gilmore Girls.
3) Pre-fame Everyone
There’s an entire list of people who had a stint on Gilmore Girls before making it big. Parks and Recreation’s Nick Offerman, Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki, and even Chad Michael Murray. Not to mention Danny Strong, whose name you might not recognize, but he’s now an Emmy and Golden Globe winning writer. He’s even signed on to write the script for the next Hunger Games movie.
4) The References
If, like me, you loved the show enough to buy every season on DVD, you would be familiar with a little booklet that comes with each season. These books act as guides through the many film, television, music, and history references that are liberally sprinkled throughout the scripts of Gilmore Girls. These range from the simple to the obscure to the I’m-pretty-sure-you-made-that-up. Being able to understand a majority of the references in a single episode will eventually give you a real feeling of accomplishment.
5) Paris Geller
She is perfect. She might be certifiably insane, but she’s perfect. Does anything more need to be said?

My sister was/is big into Gilmore Girls, so much so that I bought her about 6 seasons of DVDs for her for Christmas/her birthday/wedding present (perhaps to the chagrin of her new husband. haha). Though I’ve never watched it myself. Might have to check it out next time I subscribe to Netflix.
